Hawkins Construction Company

Hawkins Construction Company is a fourth-generation, family-owned heavy civil and industrial contractor based in Omaha, Nebraska. The business traces back to Parsons Construction, founded in 1885; Earl and Kenneth Hawkins became co-owners by 1933, and Hawkins Construction Company was incorporated in 1960 under Fred Hawkins. The firm builds highways, bridges, industrial plants and infrastructure across the Midwest, and its older résumé includes Boys Town and Omaha’s Memorial Park. At Eppley Airfield, Hawkins held the separate $65 million terminal drive and canopy contract within the airport’s Build OMA terminal modernization. It markets itself on reliability, with a motto of getting the job done no matter what.

Hawkins publishes its history as a decade-by-decade timeline, and the decades are where the capability actually shows up. The 1960s and 1970s under Fred Hawkins brought major infrastructure work, including a Missouri River wastewater treatment plant and OPPD generating station work, alongside commercial and defence projects around Omaha. The third generation took over in 1980, with leadership shared by Kim and Fred Jr., and in 1983 the company put significant investment into heavy-highway expertise – the move that explains why its résumé today leans toward roads, bridges and airfield paving rather than buildings. A new headquarters followed in 2002, and the 2006 to 2020 stretch added the Council Bluffs Interstate program, Offutt-related work, Eppley airfield paving programs and First National’s technology park.

The values are published as five named commitments rather than slogans: thorough planning, which the firm defines as eliminating surprises before construction begins; honest and direct communication; financial stewardship, described as looking out for the client’s financial interests and cutting unnecessary waste; personal accountability, with measured performance and owned results; and one team. For an owner evaluating a heavy civil bid, financial stewardship as a stated value is worth testing in the preconstruction conversation.

Hawkins also sits at the centre of a small group of affiliated businesses – its site names Raven Materials, Talon Innovations and GrindWorks Engineering – which means materials supply and engineering support can come from inside the same organisation on a self-perform heavy civil job.

The company is openly recruiting, with a hiring message aimed at competitive, focused field people, and it describes the standard it is hiring to rather than the perks. Four generations under one family, one published standard, and a motto built around getting the job done regardless of conditions: for Midwest public owners and industrial clients, the pitch is reliability on schedule-critical infrastructure, and the timeline is the evidence offered for it.
