A Bit About Gresham Smith

Gresham Smith is an architecture, engineering and design firm founded in Nashville in 1967 by Batey Gresham and Flem Smith, who met at an AIA gathering in the city. An early partnership with Hospital Corporation of America set the firm on a long run in healthcare design. Its practice now also covers aviation, transportation, water and environmental work, industrial and advanced manufacturing, higher education, civic buildings and workplace projects. Services include architecture, building and civil engineering, landscape architecture, planning and commissioning, delivered from offices across the South and Midwest. Gresham Smith said in 2022 that it had more than 1,000 employees in 25 offices. It is one of 46 member firms in the Innovative Design Consortium, which picked Acelab in September 2026 to help write an open materials data standard.
