Westinghouse Electric Company designs nuclear plants, supplies fuel and services operating reactors from its headquarters in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania. The business traces to George Westinghouse and 1886; the current entity dates to 1999, and it now carries roughly 12,500 employees across more than 100 locations in 23 countries. Westinghouse supplied the world’s first commercial pressurized water reactor at Shippingport, Pennsylvania in 1957, and says its technology underpins about half of the roughly 430 reactors operating today. Current product lines run from the AP1000 to the AP300 small modular reactor and the eVinci microreactor, alongside licensing, engineering and construction support. In September 2026 its consortium with Bechtel agreed main commercial terms for three AP1000 units in Poland.
Fuel is the part of this business a plant owner touches every cycle, and it is where Westinghouse is most concrete about product names. Fabrication happens at three plants, in the United States, Sweden and the United Kingdom, serving pressurized water, boiling water and VVER cores. The branded families: EnCore for accident-tolerant fuel, AXIOM cladding, PRIME features on PWR assemblies, ADOPT pellets, and TRITON11 for boiling water reactors. Around the assemblies sit core components, burnable absorber products, safety analysis, high-burnup capability work and fuel engineering support. The company states fuel reliability above 95 percent.
New build is organized in three tiers rather than one flagship. The AP1000 is the Generation III+ large unit, sized per unit for more than 750,000 US homes, with six units operating, fourteen under construction, and more than 245 TWh generated by the fleet since 2018. The AP300 is a 330 MW small modular reactor that deliberately reuses AP1000 passive safety systems, fuel technology and supply chain, so the commercial pitch is that the SMR is not a separate industrial program; each unit is described as powering roughly 300,000 homes. The eVinci microreactor sits below both, including a space variant. Long-duration energy storage is carried in the same new-plants portfolio.
The services side is the wider footprint, reaching close to two thirds of the world’s operating reactors. Engineered offerings cover license renewal, component asset management, nuclear engineering, systems and program engineering, probabilistic risk assessment, fire protection, civil and structural engineering, physical security and balance-of-plant design. Instrumentation and controls is a distinct line: safety systems, reactor systems, control room upgrades, control systems, system support and simulation. A digital optimization group builds analytics and software specifically for nuclear operations rather than adapting generic industrial tools.
Outage and field services are where crews actually mobilize: maintenance, modification and construction, I&C installation, valve maintenance and repair, reactor services, NDE inspection, rotating equipment and reactor coolant pump refurbishment, steam generator services, specialty welding and machining, turbine services, civil maintenance and scaffolding, radiation protection and ALARA programs, and testing. Westinghouse counts more than 130 power uprates completed worldwide and supplies over 100,000 nuclear parts a year. It also sells professional, technical and managed staffing, and supports CANDU and boiling water reactor designs it did not originate, which matters to any utility running a mixed fleet. Headquarters is 1000 Westinghouse Drive, Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania 16066, and the company still frames its engineering culture around George Westinghouse’s own record of more than 360 patents.
