BKS Stonemasons

BKS Stonemasons specialises in Interior Stone Cladding solutions that add natural texture, character, and visual appeal to interior spaces. Their stone cladding options are suitable for feature walls and other indoor applications, offering a practical way to enhance residential and commercial interiors with quality stonework and professional craftsmanship.

Beyond the interior cladding work, BKS Stonemasons runs two distinct lines that draw on the same skill set from opposite directions.

The first is heritage restoration. Melbourne’s older bluestone and sandstone building stock needs repointing, stone replacement and face repair done in a way that matches original coursing and mortar, and the company presents this as a core competency rather than an occasional job. The second is new facade cladding, where the constraint is the opposite: modern substrates, fixing systems and load paths determine what can be hung on a wall and how.

Brendon Colaci leads the business, which is based in Eltham and counts more than 18 years in stone restoration and craftsmanship. It is a member of Master Builders Victoria.

Its stated coverage runs across a wide spread of Melbourne: Eltham and the northeast through Greensborough, Ivanhoe, Doncaster and Warrandyte; the inner east and southeast through Hawthorn, Camberwell, Balwyn, Surrey Hills, Malvern, Toorak, South Yarra, Prahran and Windsor; and further out to Brighton, Williamstown, Richmond, Fitzroy, Carlton and Southbank.

The materials list is more specific than “stone”. BKS works in sandstone, bluestone, granite, limestone and travertine, and each behaves differently in a Victorian climate — bluestone is dense and dimensionally stable, limestone and sandstone are porous and far more sensitive to how they are sealed and drained. Choosing between them for an exterior wall is a durability decision as much as an aesthetic one.

The client list points to the commercial side of the practice. Kane Constructions, Built, Hallmarc, Build Engg, Buildcept and the City of Stonnington all appear among the firms and bodies the company has worked with, which places it on contract projects with programme and compliance requirements, not only on domestic feature walls and fireplaces.

Alongside cladding the company builds stone walling, retaining walls and fireplaces, and offers a free consultation for new enquiries. It can be reached on 0407 936 719.
