Power Design Inc

Power Design Inc is a national electrical contractor founded in 1989 and headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida, with mechanical, plumbing and low-voltage divisions alongside its core electrical business. The firm runs a design-build model and a substantial prefabrication operation, which is how it holds schedule on the high-rise residential and hospitality work that makes up much of its backlog. Power Design holds the electrical and HVAC scope on the Ritz-Carlton Residences at Saltleaf on Estero Bay in Bonita Springs, a two-tower, 224-unit development with a $458 million construction value where the north tower topped out in September 2026. Multi-trade self-perform of this kind is increasingly what large residential developers ask for, because it removes the coordination seams between electrical, mechanical and plumbing on a tight concrete cycle.

The multi-trade self-perform model described above has a manufacturing arm sitting underneath it, which is the less obvious half of the story.

Power Design runs LFG Specialty Manufacturing, a UL-certified operation building custom switchboards and critical power equipment. A contractor that manufactures its own gear is insulated from the switchgear lead times that have driven schedule risk across the industry since 2021, when electrical equipment went from a procurement detail to the critical path on most large projects. Multi-trade prefabrication sits alongside it, along with a lighting and fixtures distribution arm.

The in-house divisions run to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, systems technologies and energy, supported by a design and engineering group covering MEP, lighting and technology solutions, plus a special operations group. That is an unusually complete stack for a trade contractor, and it is what lets the firm bid a building’s entire mechanical, electrical and plumbing scope as one package rather than as four.

The company was founded in 1989 and states work across 28 states, with 1,856 completed projects on its counter.

Recognition includes an ABC STEP Platinum safety rating, ABC Top Performer and Top Trade Contractor, ENR Top Contractor, and EC&M Top Contractor and Design Firm listings. It placed at number 20 on a USA Today Top Workplaces list and reports $2.2 million in community giving in 2025.

Apprenticeship programmes are run internally, which for a firm self-performing four trades is less a benefit than a requirement.
