Coated Metals Group

Coated Metals Group started in 1983 when two brothers in the roofing and architectural sheet metal trade couldn’t find a supplier they liked and became one. CMG is headquartered in Verona, Wisconsin, just outside Madison, and manufactures and distributes pre-finished steel for construction: slit coil, flat sheet, standing seam roof and wall panel systems, rainware and snow retention. Work runs across commercial, institutional and residential roofing and siding. The company went 100% employee-owned in 2016 and now operates 14 production and distribution facilities nationwide, most recently opening a branch serving the Omaha metro from La Vista, Nebraska in September 2026. All CMG steel is domestically produced, and the firm backs its finishes with a long-form warranty.

For a roofing or panel contractor, the practical questions about a coil supplier are colour, finish and how fast a branch can load a truck. CMG stocks over 61 standard colours in pre-finished steel and carries Ultra Matte low-gloss PVDF finishes in inventory rather than as a special order.

The branch network has moved quickly. Dallas-Fort Worth opened as the thirteenth location in December 2025, and Omaha followed as the fourteenth in September 2026. The About page still lists the earlier twelve – Austin, Bozeman, Charlotte, Denver, Detroit, Indianapolis, Madison, Minneapolis, Nashville, York, Phoenix and Salt Lake City – so the news feed is the more current count.

The product line spans slit coil and flat sheet through pre-formed roof and wall panel systems, ACM panels, rainware and gutter coil, snow retention, underlayment and trim accessories. Finishes carry what the company calls the most comprehensive warranty in the industry, and a warranty request can be submitted online.

Contractor-side tooling is part of the offer: a coil calculator, an online credit application and a project submission form sit alongside the warranty request, which cuts the phone traffic on routine ordering.

The project gallery leans residential and architectural as much as commercial – the Kamas Mountain Residence in Utah, a barndominium at Quiet Waters in Colorado, and Desert Wing in Scottsdale, Arizona. The common thread is standing seam and architectural panel work rather than bulk commercial re-roofs.

CMG also publishes an education section aimed at pricing questions. A February 2025 bulletin walked through steel and aluminium tariffs and what they were doing to metal roofing pricing and availability – useful reading for anyone holding an open bid.
