LS Power

LS Power is a development, investment and operating company focused on power generation, electric transmission and energy infrastructure, founded in 1990 and headquartered in New York with offices in New Jersey, Missouri and California. The firm develops, acquires and operates generation and transmission assets across U.S. markets and has raised substantial private capital for energy infrastructure since its founding. Its transmission affiliate Great Basin Transmission started construction in September 2026 on SWIP-North, a 285-mile, 500-kV line between Idaho and southern Nevada that CAISO valued at $1.23 billion. LS Power acquired development rights to the corridor in 2005 and carried the project through two decades of permitting and capacity contracting before groundbreaking.

LS Power has been family and employee-owned since 1990, which is unusual for a firm operating at this scale in power infrastructure and goes some way to explaining its tolerance for long development timelines.

The numbers it publishes give a sense of the platform. More than 200 generation projects owned or operated since inception. More than 780 miles of high-voltage transmission built. Seven transmission utilities operating across seven states. More than 13 billion dollars of committed equity capital raised. In 2020 the company energised Gateway Energy Storage in San Diego, a 250 MW battery that was described at the time as the largest in the world.

Recent portfolio activity has been heavy in both directions. In 2024 LS Power formed Lightning Power, a natural gas portfolio of roughly 11 GW. In 2025 it sold a 13 GW gas portfolio together with the demand-response business CPower to NRG Energy for 12 billion dollars, and separately acquired a renewables portfolio of around 3,000 MW from Algonquin Power. Buying and selling at that pace is a development-and-exit model rather than a long-hold utility model, and contractors working with the company should expect asset ownership to change during a project’s life.

The asset mix spans natural gas-fired generation, utility-scale solar, wind and hydro, and battery storage, and the firm also provides management services for distressed energy assets, which brings it in as an operator on projects it did not originate.

Offices are listed in New York, New Jersey, Missouri, California and Texas. The company’s own locations page gives states rather than street addresses, so anyone needing a specific office should confirm directly.
