Wagner Equipment Co.

Wagner Equipment Co. has been the Caterpillar dealer for Colorado, New Mexico and far west Texas since 1976, operating more than 40 locations from a headquarters in Aurora, Colorado. The company sells new and used Cat machines, runs a rental fleet, stocks parts, and fields more than 235 service technicians for repairs, scheduled maintenance, certified rebuilds and 24-hour emergency work. Its power systems group handles electric power generation, standby and prime power packages and microgrid work, and its technology arm supplies SITECH machine control and VisionLink fleet telematics. On September 2, 2026, a Wagner field service mechanic was killed at an El Paso, Texas jobsite when equipment he was servicing fell on him; OSHA and El Paso Police are investigating and no cause has been determined.

Fifty years is the number Wagner is currently marking, and the dealership frames its territory plainly: Colorado, New Mexico and far west Texas, with more than a dozen full-service facilities alongside the Wagner Cat Rentals network and resident sales and service representatives placed across the region.

The customer base is broader than general construction. The company lists heavy construction, building construction, mining, waste handling, paving, municipal and governmental applications, forestry and agriculture among the applications it equips, which is why the rental and parts side has to carry so much breadth.

On the service side the catalogue is unusually specific. Twenty-four-hour emergency service and Cat Certified Rebuilds sit alongside engine service, field service, shop service, hydraulic service and hydraulic hose repair, undercarriage service, fluid analysis, condition monitoring, preventive maintenance, on-highway truck engine service and power systems service. Customer Value Agreements bundle that support into lifecycle plans. Parts are stocked down to injectors, planned maintenance kits, undercarriage parts, remanufactured parts and used parts, with online ordering through Parts.Cat.Com.

Financing and fleet tools round it out: the Cat Commercial Account for equipment financing, a Fuel Promise Program aimed at efficiency and savings, Cat Rewards on purchases, and VisionLink for fleet data and telematics. Periodic Red Tag inventory promotions carry special pricing on selected models.

The power systems group is worth separating from the machine business. It covers electric power, microgrid systems, oil and gas, industrial service and rental power, which puts Wagner in front of standby and prime power buyers who may never buy an excavator.

Workforce development is handled in-house through technician careers, sales and administrative roles, and career training programmes, including finance training, a reflection of how hard heavy equipment dealerships across the region compete for diagnostic technicians.
