Silvi Materials is a family-owned, vertically integrated construction materials producer founded by Laurence Silvi in Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1947 and now run by the third generation. The Silvi Group operates more than 36 locations across ready-mix concrete, cement, slag, sand mining, stone and marine terminals, with divisions including Silvi Concrete, Silvi Cement, Riverside Cement, Gibraltar Stone and Sahara Sand. In August 2026 the cement division announced a rail-served distribution terminal in Greenville, South Carolina, due to be operational that October, and confirmed a fourth-quarter date for a Columbus, Ohio terminal with 24-hour loading. Both will distribute Type I/II low-alkali cement and Grade 120 slag, the pairing used for mass pours and alkali-silica reaction mitigation. The company is headquartered on Newbold Road in Fairless Hills.
The origin story Silvi publishes is worth the space, because it explains the shape of the company today.
Laurence Silvi came home from the U.S. Navy after the Second World War and went to work as a butcher in his family’s general store in Tullytown, Pennsylvania. A customer who could not settle his debt handed the family a cement block plant instead. Larry Sr. was put in charge of it and started making block at night after his shifts behind the counter. That is the beginning of The Silvi Group.
What happened next was a matter of being in Bucks County at the right moment. Larry Sr. moved to a farmhouse in Morrisville and rented the upstairs to a purchasing agent from William J. Levitt & Sons, the same year Levitt began a 16,000-home project called Levittown. He started washing sand on his own farmland to supply it, then added ready-mix concrete to serve the last forty houses, buying two six-yard pony motor mixers to do it. Levitt subsequently awarded Silvi sole supply on a 16,000-home project in Willingboro and a 5,000-home project in Matawan, both in New Jersey. Post-war tract housing built the company.
Three generations later the structure is deliberately vertical. Silvi produces or quarries the inputs rather than buying them, which the company frames as supporting a wide range of requirements with limited use of third-party partnerships. The catalogue includes ready-mix concrete, imported and ground low-alkali cement, sand in all major varieties, more than 75 crushed stone products, slag used as a recycled cementitious ingredient, and bulk salt and calcium chloride pellets, where Silvi is among the larger East Coast distributors.
Logistics is treated as a product line in its own right. Alongside truck and rail, the company runs marinas at Bristol, Pennsylvania and Bivalve, New Jersey, so material can move by ship or barge. Waterborne delivery is unusual for a regional producer and it is the reason Silvi can serve jobs where road access is the binding constraint.
The company also puts its name on outside work: NJIT dedicated the Silvi Materials Concrete Lab in August 2026, recognising a partnership of more than two decades, and Silvi is a partner of the Philadelphia Eagles. Headquarters remain on Newbold Road in Fairless Hills.
