Holt Brothers Construction

Holt Brothers Construction is a minority-owned general contractor in Raleigh, North Carolina, founded in 2007 by brothers Terrence and Torry Holt and operating under parent company Holt Brothers, Inc. The firm is certified as an MBE through the Carolinas-Virginia Minority Supplier Development Council and takes on work ranging from roughly $500,000 to $450 million, most of it in the institutional, healthcare, education and commercial markets across the Carolinas. Holt Brothers is a partner on the CM at Risk joint venture rebuilding the North Carolina Museum of History, alongside Barnhill Contracting and Balfour Beatty US. Services include general contracting, construction management, preconstruction and design-build delivery.

The range is the striking number: Holt Brothers has managed projects from roughly $500,000 up to $450 million. Very few contractors staff for both ends of that spread, and it explains why the firm turns up as a joint venture partner on landmark public work and as the builder on smaller community projects in the same year.

Nine markets carry the work — cultural, education, government and public, healthcare, life sciences, mission-critical, office, retail, and sports and recreation — delivered through four service lines: preconstruction, general contracting, construction management and design-build.

Terrence and Torry Holt founded the company in 2007 after professional football careers, and the firm is explicit that the operating principles came with them: discipline, teamwork, determination and competing at the highest level. They serve as presidents and founders. The stated mission is a more inclusive future creating opportunity for clients, staff and community, and the four company values are integrity, community, relationships and innovation.

Licensing is broad for a firm of this size. Holt Brothers holds unlimited general contractor licences in both North Carolina and South Carolina, operates under NC licence #71120, and is licensed across a number of southeastern states. It is a certified minority-owned enterprise.

Named work includes Dorthea Dix Park in Raleigh — ranked among USA Today’s 10 Best Parks — Raleigh Union Station, and NC Freedom Park, where the client described the team as understanding the project’s significance as a symbol of community and history rather than only a physical space. A Durham County client noted the firm’s handling of a phased release of drawing packages without losing coordination across design disciplines and trades.

The office is at 421 Fayetteville Street, Suite 1300, Raleigh, NC 27601, on 919.787.1981. Subcontractors and suppliers can approach through the trade partner section of the site.
