Banker Steel

Don Banker founded Banker Steel in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1997. The company is an AISC-certified structural steel fabricator that also self-performs erection in New York City through its NYC Constructors subsidiary, which gives it an unusual span from mill order through steel in place. Services cover preconstruction and design assist, digital engineering and detailing, fabrication and erection. Completed work includes One Vanderbilt, 270 Park Avenue, JFK Terminal One and Barclays Center, and the firm holds structural steel on the new terminal at John Glenn Columbus International Airport. Banker Steel has been part of DBM Global since 2021; in August 2026 IES Holdings announced an agreement to acquire DBM Global in a roughly $650 million deal expected to close in the fourth quarter.

Banker Steel sorts its work by building type rather than by geography, and the list is a fair map of where heavy structural steel actually goes: arenas and stadiums, aviation, bridges, convention and event centres, data centres, education, government, healthcare, high-rises, hotels and casinos, leisure and entertainment, mixed use, office buildings, retail and transportation. Each of those carries its own constraint — phased construction with no disruption to a live hospital, long-span framing for a venue roof, critical-path timelines with minimal site interruption at an airport, speed to market on a data centre.

Three service lines cover it. Preconstruction engages early to sequence decisions and surface risk before steel is ordered. Fabrication is AISC certified and serves East Coast markets. Erection is a separate discipline, self-performed in New York through NYC Constructors from an office at 110 East 42nd Street.

Backing comes from DBM Global, which puts Banker Steel in a group alongside Schuff Steel, GrayWolf, NYC Constructors, Milco National Constructors, DBM Vircon and Aitken — the reason a Lynchburg fabricator can bid work at national scale.

Offices and fabrication run from the Lynchburg headquarters at 1619 Wythe Road and a second Lynchburg plant on Rangoon Street, plus Duluth, Georgia; New York; South Plainfield, New Jersey; and Markham, Ontario.

For anyone pricing a steel package, the firm publishes a Steel Report explaining what actually drives the cost of steel, and its site runs in English and Spanish. Sales enquiries go to sales@bankersteel.com; the head office answers on (434) 847-4575 or toll free on 1 (800) 285-4939.
