Costner Building Group has been building since 2016, and the founding story is specific: the team found hidden defects behind the walls of a high-end house, and that discovery pushed the company toward building-science-led construction. The stated goal that follows from it is unusual to see in writing, which is to make the indoor air healthier than the outdoor air on every home the company builds.

Leadership is small and named. Marshall is founder and president. Denise runs projects with more than 20 years in residential construction, and Matt manages sites with 15-plus years and is a Locust, North Carolina native.

Most custom builds run about ten to sixteen months from permit approval to completion. Size, finish complexity, site conditions and permitting all move that figure, and getting materials procured early tends to pull it in. Work moves through four phases: preconstruction planning, design development, construction documentation and permitting, then construction. Clients keep ownership of their plans and contracts throughout, which matters if a project changes hands.

Progress tracking runs through JobTread internally, with milestones pushed to clients through the builder’s own app, plus recurring coordination meetings with designers and architects. The company will work with a client’s own architect or designer rather than requiring an in-house design package.

Coverage extends past Charlotte into Lake Norman, SouthPark, Ballantyne, Waxhaw and Mint Hill in North Carolina, and across the state line to Indian Land, Fort Mill and Rock Hill in South Carolina. The company states it is licensed in both North Carolina and South Carolina. The office is at 568 Griffith Rd, Charlotte, NC 28217, on (704) 236-6502.
