Smoot Construction Company of Washington, DC is a minority-owned general contractor and construction manager working across public buildings, higher education, aviation and sports venues in the capital region. It operates alongside the wider Smoot organization, whose roots run back to Columbus, Ohio, and it frequently takes prime positions through joint ventures rather than subcontract roles. In August 2026 the Washington Commanders selected Clark, Mortenson and SmootDC as the joint venture to build their new stadium on the former RFK Stadium site, an approximately 65,000-seat enclosed venue of roughly 1.8 million square feet anchoring a 180-acre campus. Construction starts in spring 2027 with completion targeted for spring 2030.
