Owens Corning

Owens Corning is a Toledo, Ohio building materials manufacturer founded in 1938 and listed on the NYSE as OC. It reported $10.1 billion of net sales in 2025 across three reportable segments: Roofing at roughly 43% of segment sales, Insulation at 36% and Doors at 21%. The Doors business came from the May 2024 acquisition of Masonite International, and in February 2025 the company agreed to sell its global glass reinforcements business for about $436 million, concentrating the portfolio on residential building products. Roughly 25,000 employees work across 31 countries, about 11,000 of them outside the United States, with about 61% of hourly employees covered by collective bargaining agreements. Its riverfront Toledo headquarters was designed by César Pelli and completed in 1996.

An experiment with glass building blocks went sideways and, in the process, showed how to make glass fibers in commercial quantities. Owens-Illinois and Corning Glass spun the discovery into a separate company, Owens-Corning Fiberglas, incorporated on October 31, 1938. The world headquarters has stayed in Toledo ever since, now at One Owens Corning Parkway.

The company today describes itself as a branded building products business with three complementary segments: roofing, insulation and doors. Roofing covers asphalt shingles and the components that go with them. Insulation spans residential building insulation and commercial and industrial applications. Doors are the newest of the three. Fiberglas, the trademark that started it all, still anchors the glass fiber side of the portfolio, supplying reinforcements for composite systems.

Scale is the other defining trait. More than 25,000 employees work across 31 countries, and the company frames the combination as global in scope and human in scale: reaching markets worldwide while trying to stay attentive to customers, communities and its own workforce. The stated purpose is blunt enough to be memorable, that its people and products make the world a better place, paired with a mission of building a sustainable future through material innovation.

The portfolio has been actively reshaped in recent years. In 2024 the company opened a review of strategic alternatives for its Glass Reinforcements business, framed as a move to concentrate on building and construction materials, and in 2025 it announced plans for a new shingle plant in the southeastern United States. Sales reached $11.0 billion in 2024, and the company was named to the 100 Best Corporate Citizens list that year.
