Welty Building Company is an Ohio construction manager and general contractor founded in 1945 by Henry Welty as the Henry D. Welty Co. It became D. Welty & Son in 1969 when Jerry Welty joined, and Donzell S. Taylor came in as a partner in 1996 before becoming president in 1999. The firm now operates as a brand under Welty Enterprises, the 2025 umbrella that also covers Welty Development, Welty Energy, inSITE Advisory Group and environments 4 business. Its markets run from aquatics and recreation to corporate office, education, government, healthcare, hospitality, industrial, mission critical and historic renovation. Welty is construction manager on the Hall of Fame Village Waterpark in Canton, and half of the Welty Gilbane joint venture that built Sherwin-Williams’ new Cleveland headquarters.

Welty has been building in Ohio since 1945. It started as a construction company and has since grown into a group that covers the wider life of a capital project. The construction arm, Welty Building Construction, LLC, works from 3421 Ridgewood Road in Fairlawn, just outside Akron, with a second office at 5959 Rockside Woods Boulevard North in Independence near Cleveland.

The company describes itself as a commercial builder that would rather be the best than the biggest. Its internal shorthand for that is OPTIC: openness, passion, teamwork, integrity and customer centricity.

Delivery models cover construction management, general contracting, design-build, integrated project delivery, lean construction and public-private partnerships, plus a dedicated mission critical practice. Market work spans education, healthcare, government, corporate headquarters and office, industrial, hospitality, multi-family residential, communities, arts and entertainment, and aquatics and recreation.

The construction business is one of several units under Welty Enterprises, which is headquartered in Akron and operates from three locations across Ohio and Indiana. The Pro Football Hall of Fame is among the projects carried by the construction group, as is Stark State College Akron. On the development side, Welty has worked on the CBIZ Plaza building at 5959 Rockside Woods Boulevard and has floated a luxury apartment conversion of Akron’s CitiCenter building.
