Hybar

Hybar is a rebar micro-mill company led by CEO Dave Stickler, formed in 2023 and built on a 1,300-acre greenfield site in Osceola, Arkansas. The company raised about $1 billion to construct a scrap-fed electric arc furnace and rolling mill with 630,000 tons of annual rebar capacity. It produced its first rebar in June 2025 and held a grand opening that November. The mill runs on solar-supported power and recycled scrap, and it employs roughly 154 people at full staffing. In June 2026 Hybar broke ground on a second mill next to the first, a $1.1 billion expansion that would push total capacity to about 1.3 million short tons a year by 2028.

Hybar makes rebar and stops there. Its stated pledge is that it will not compete with the fabricators and distributors who buy from it, so fabrication and distribution stay with the customer. The company calls this the HYWAY, and pairs it with a safety commitment framed around getting every team member home at the end of a shift and a stated obligation to the northeast Arkansas communities around the mill.

The product range is narrow and deliberate. The mill rolls both straight-length and spooled rebar and can supply precise lengths, which the company argues cuts yield losses for customers; the name is short for higher-yielding bar. Advanced chemistry and a quenching process give corrosion resistance in aggressive environments, with ductility and pliability maintained across grades. The technology allows switching between sizes and grades, and Hybar is one of a small number of producers worldwide able to roll size #18 rebar, the heavy bar used on marine structures, bridges, tunnels and supertall buildings. Published throughput is 770,000 tons of scrap recycled and 700,000 tons of rebar produced a year, working out to roughly 4,300 tons per employee.

Location does real work here. The Osceola site has direct access to a Class One railroad, the Mississippi River and an extensive highway system; most rebar producers, Hybar notes, are limited to one or two transport modes. Inside the mill, a direct-current electric arc furnace improves energy efficiency and cuts carbon electrode consumption, a 40-ton hot heel uses residual heat to begin melting scrap rather than drawing electrical power to start the process, and an advanced water system holds down consumption and discharge. The direct connection to an adjacent behind-the-meter solar array and battery storage is the piece the company treats as its central claim. Hybar says it was the world’s first steel producer to obtain Green Bonds-Climate Bond certification and is aiming to become the only LEED-certified steel rebar mill. Investors listed on the site include TPG Rise Climate, Quanta Services, Koch Industries and Global Principal Partners.
