HCSS builds software for heavy-civil and infrastructure contractors, the firms that pour concrete, move dirt, and build roads, bridges, and utilities. Founded in 1986 and based in Sugar Land, Texas, the company’s tools cover estimating, bidding, field operations, and fleet and safety management, and it generated roughly $215 million in revenue in 2025. HCSS was acquired by the Nemetschek Group in a $2.4 billion deal that closed in July 2026, joining a construction-technology portfolio that includes Bluebeam and GoCanvas. The heavy-civil market has been slower to digitize than vertical building, which made HCSS a valued on-ramp for a software group chasing that segment.

HCSS has been building software for the heavy civil and utility construction industry since 1986, and works from offices just outside Houston in Sugar Land, Texas. Its customers are the contractors who build roads, bridges, dams, airports, and other infrastructure, and the company reports that its tools are used by more than 50,000 construction professionals across 4,000-plus companies, including 43 of the ENR top 50 heavy civil contractors.

The product line runs from pre-construction through project completion. HeavyBid handles estimating and bidding; HeavyJob covers job costing and project management; and additional products address construction safety, digital plans, dispatching, equipment and fleet maintenance through Equipment360, GPS telematics, and cloud hosting. In 2025 the company acquired Dispatcher-Pro, a France-based resource-management provider, to extend its platform internationally.

HCSS runs its own support desk 24/7, 365 days a year out of Sugar Land, with a stated goal of answering calls within three rings and no phone tree. The company has repeatedly been named one of the Best Companies to Work for in Texas and was recognized in 2024 among Construction Executive’s Top Construction Technology Firms.
