JCJ Architecture

JCJ Architecture is an employee-owned architecture, interior design and planning firm founded in Hartford, Connecticut in 1936, with additional offices including Boston. The practice works across hospitality and gaming, education, civic and community projects, and it has built a particular depth in tribal gaming work over several decades. JCJ designed the $140 million renovation and expansion of the Choctaw Nation’s Choctaw Casino & Resort in Pocola, Oklahoma, a program that pairs a new seven-story, 130-room hotel tower with a full renovation of an operating casino floor. Projects of that type demand phasing discipline as much as design, since the gaming operation never closes. The firm also carries a substantial K-12 and higher education portfolio.

JCJ Architecture spreads about 175 staff across seven offices – Hartford, Boston, New York City, Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Diego and Tulsa – and is registered to practice in 44 states, a national reach unusual for a firm founded in a single Connecticut city in 1936. It became employee-owned through an ESOP in 2012. The practice splits its portfolio between commercial work (gaming, entertainment, hospitality, hotels, retail and workplace) and institutional work (K-12 and higher education, civic, community, arts and culture, and public safety and justice). Planning and interior design sit alongside architecture in-house, so a client can move from master plan to finished interiors without leaving the firm.
