Founded in 2017 by a craftsman named Blair, Studio Stabio operates from an Auckland studio as both fabricator and design-engineering partner. The founding intent was narrow: produce architectural steelwork beyond what the local market offered at the time. That hands-on approach still runs through the business, from design resolution through to final installation.
The range is built around three profile systems. W20 is the lightweight option, with a 22mm frame, 43 to 55mm sash and 43mm depth, suited to internal partitions, shower screens and smaller windows and doors, taking glazing from 4mm to 20mm. W40 steps up to a 27mm frame and 55mm sash for larger exterior openings and heavier glazing between 15mm and 30mm, holding slim sightlines while improving wind performance. W50TB is the thermally broken profile, adding a thermal barrier and higher acoustic ratings for exterior-facing joinery in demanding climates. All three cover fixed, sliding, casement, bifold, awning, arched, hinged, double-door and pivot applications, with fixed panels to 3000x3000mm and pivots to 1400x3000mm. Profile systems carry a 15-year warranty.
Porta Kinetica sits at the centre of the portfolio, a steel and glass operable wall facade range the studio describes as the meeting point of architectural intent and mechanical control.
Certification is specific. External joinery is tested and certified to NZS 4211:2008, the New Zealand standard covering exterior window and door performance, with testing carried out on products in the same configuration they leave the factory, including glazing systems and seismic subframes. The studio is a registered member of the Window and Glass Association New Zealand. Coating options run to powder coat, wet spray, galvanised and raw steel, and all have passed accelerated sea spray fog testing to a C4 environmental rating, with warranty terms tailored to the coating system selected.
One policy is worth knowing before enquiring: Studio Stabio does not offer supply-only. Every element is fabricated and installed by its own team, on the reasoning that installation determines performance and longevity as much as the joinery does. Material is a mix of locally sourced steel and imported Swiss steel.
