Founded by Amy and Matt Koehn, KoehnDesign operates from Calgary as a combined interior design and construction studio, and that dual structure shapes how projects run. Amy brings more than twenty years working alongside Calgary’s luxury builders and is an honours graduate of the University of Alberta’s Residential Interior Design program, while Matt contributes two decades in development and custom builds. Together they keep design and construction under one roof.
Design work spans architectural review, interior design, exterior design, furniture selection, and final styling. Full-service construction is deliberately kept exclusive to Calgary so the build side stays tightly managed, with all scopes executed to construction drawings. Clients outside Alberta are not left out, though: the studio’s interior design services extend to Canmore, Vancouver, Kelowna, Saskatoon, Regina, and Toronto, with the Calgary team coordinating selections and styling remotely where needed.
A practical detail for anyone weighing a renovation is that KoehnDesign develops moodboards, drawings, and 3D renderings before construction starts, so the finished space is agreed on paper first. Project timelines are scoped to the work itself, with smaller furnishing projects running a few weeks to a few months and full custom builds or gut remodels extending across several months. Pricing is quoted per project with an itemized breakdown rather than a fixed rate card.
The studio frames its approach around three ideas: craftsmanship, bespoke design, and a client-centric process that starts with listening to how a household actually lives. Recent Calgary projects such as the Bayview Classic, the Banded Peak Home, and an Elbow Valley basement transformation show the range, from warm classic detailing to bold, moody transitional interiors.
The through-line across every engagement is a single point of accountability, from concept and material selection through project management to the final reveal, which is why the studio suits homeowners who would rather hand off coordination than juggle trades themselves.
