For over 70 years, L & L Painting Company, Inc. has been able to provide top-quality finishing surface projects on schedule and at very reasonable prices. L & L Painting Company, Inc. takes pride in the ability to provide reliable and affordable services to every single customer and client without sacrificing high quality workmanship.
Currently, we have over 400 full-time employees working on approximately $100 million dollars worth of bonded projects in the New York Tri-State area. Our project résumé and clientèle list speak for themselves. From business offices and apartment buildings to hospitals and universities; from five star hotels to the country’s most capacious bridges, L & L’s knowledge of coatings and foresight on new technological advances has placed us in the vanguard of the painting industry. We are the largest painting contractor in the New York metropolitan area.
L & L Painting Company, Inc. is a fully trained, qualified lead abatement contractor. We have abated and painted most of the bridges in New York City’s infrastructure, including the George Washington Bridge, Queensborough Bridge, Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, Williamsburge Bridge, Tappan Zee Bridge, Outerbridge Crossing, Henry Hudson Bridge, Marine Parkway Bridge, Roosevelt Island Bridge, as well as the FDR Viaduct.
Ownership is the newer part of this story. Willie Levine founded the business in 1949. Today Catherine Moss holds majority ownership and leads the group, working in collaboration with the Levines, and the company now describes itself as woman-owned and woman-led. The framing on its own site is continuity rather than change: more than 75 years, several generations of leadership, the same emphasis on craft and reliability.
L & L Painting is one of four companies under the L&L umbrella. The others are L&L Tile and Stone, L&L Specialty Flooring and CMR Civil LLC, which is why the service list reaches past coatings into terrazzo, resinous flooring and concrete polishing. Tenant alterations, maintenance painting, wall covering and intumescent fireproof coatings fill out the rest.
The credential that matters most in this trade is SSPC QP-1 and QP-2, and L & L holds both along with QSC. It is renewed annually and audited each year against quality assurance and quality control criteria, and the company reports receiving the highest ratings in those audits. On lead abatement work in particular, QP-2 has become the main yardstick clients use to judge whether a contractor is qualified. L & L is also a union signatory contractor, which is how safety training is handled across a workforce of that size.
The building portfolio is as long as the bridge list. Hospitality includes the Waldorf Astoria, Essex House, the Mandarin, the New York Hilton, the Paramount, Trump International, the TSX Hotel and the restored TWA Flight Center and Hotel at JFK. Arenas cover Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center. Healthcare runs through NYU’s hospitals, Mount Sinai and Memorial Sloan Kettering. Aviation takes in both JFK and LaGuardia. Residential towers include 220 Central Park South, 520 Park Avenue, 250 South Street and 731 Lexington Avenue, alongside Hudson Yards.
Schools are in the mix too, with PS 71 on Staten Island among the featured projects, as are restaurant and retail fitouts from Jean-Georges to Fogo de Chao to the Capital Grille.
