Built Robotics

Built Robotics is a San Francisco technology company founded in 2016 that builds autonomous systems for heavy construction equipment. The firm retrofits excavators and other machines with AI guidance so they can run earthmoving and utility tasks with limited human input. In 2026 Built began a research collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania’s xLAB to develop provably safe autonomy for machines working near active crews. The company has also partnered with the International Union of Operating Engineers to certify union members as robotic-equipment operators. Built’s technology is aimed at solar, utility and civil jobsites facing chronic labor shortages.
