Bedrock Robotics is a construction-technology company building autonomy systems for heavy earthmoving equipment. Bedrock Robotics’ offering splits into two related products. The first is autonomous construction equipment retrofits — fitting autonomy onto machines a contractor already owns. The second is the underlying heavy equipment automation hardware and software that makes those retrofits work: the sensors, computers, and control code that let a standard machine operate on its own. Selling both the retrofit and the platform beneath it means the company owns the full stack rather than depending on a third party for the core technology.

The retrofit model is the strategic choice worth understanding. By upgrading existing excavators and dozers instead of manufacturing new autonomous machines from scratch, the company sidesteps the capital and the years it takes to design and build heavy equipment, and it meets contractors where they already are — on the fleets parked in their own yards. That lowers the barrier to trying autonomy on a jobsite, since it does not require buying a new machine to find out whether the approach works.

This is a young, compact operation: founded in 2024, with a team in the range of 11 to 50 people, working across the United States. A staff that size building autonomy for heavy machinery signals a focused engineering effort rather than a broad commercial rollout, which fits a company still early in bringing jobsite automation to market. For a contractor, the practical questions are which machines in a fleet are candidates for a retrofit, and which repetitive earthmoving tasks could run under remote supervision — and because the work reaches nationwide, that conversation is not limited by geography.

Owning both the retrofit and the automation platform beneath it also shapes how the company can grow: improvements to the hardware and software flow to every machine it has already upgraded, rather than being locked into a new product line. For contractors short on skilled operators, that is the appeal — capability that can spread across a fleet already on the ground.
