Garry and Shea Figler opened Advanced Millwork in October 1992, and the husband-and-wife team still owns and operates it. Three decades on, the tally stands at two offices, more than fifty employees and over 2,000 completed jobs.

Production runs out of a 35,000-square-foot shop just north of downtown Orlando. The equipment list covers a panel saw, a five-axis CNC router, a CNC dowel inserter, an edgebander, milling and moulding lines, and a paint booth, which keeps finishing under the same roof as fabrication rather than out at a subcontractor.

The offering splits four ways. Commercial millwork means custom fixtures, wall paneling, moulding and trim. Attractions and retail covers merchandise displays, retail fixtures and service contracts. Hospitality is reception desks, bars and lounges. Commercial cabinetry takes in scientific casework, European casework and custom casework. Behind those four categories sit separate departments for estimating and budgeting, design and engineering, preconstruction and planning, project management, and field installation, with preconstruction acting as the link between the client and the shop floor.

On size, AMI is candid: it welcomes projects of any scale but is built for packages between $100,000 and $10 million. The J.W. Marriott Bonnet Creek job, at $13.5 million, sits above that band and remains the largest scope the company names.

The award shelf filled up in 2023. AMI took ABC Excellence in Construction Eagle awards for the PGA Tour Grill and the Waldorf Astoria, and Project of the Year for Brightline.

Sustainability is handled two ways. The company sources FSC-certified products through long-standing supplier relationships, and it maintains internal systems that track material selections against LEED requirements so the paperwork can be passed straight to the client team.
