London Drywall Ltd has traded from 20 Brune Street in Spitalfields since its incorporation in 1999, and John Conway has led the business as managing director from the start. The company reports a turnover above GBP 10 million and works almost entirely as a specialist subcontractor rather than a direct-to-client trade, supplying main contractors including Structuretone, Mace, 8 Build, Canary Wharf Contractors and Lendlease.
That supply-chain position shapes the portfolio. Completed fit-outs include Goldman Sachs, UBS at 5 Broadgate, Google at 6 Pancras Square, BT, Diageo, Jefferies, Genomics and law firm Covington & Burling. Canary Wharf Contractors describes London Drywall as part of its supply chain for more than fifteen years.
Delivery capacity comes from a workforce of 180 site operatives, supported by an office team of project directors, design managers, quantity surveyors and site managers whose credentials the company publishes individually: SMSTS certification, NVQ Level 6 and 7 construction management diplomas, NEBOSH, first aid and face-fit training.
Design is handled in house. London Drywall was among the first drywall specialists to build its own Building Information Modelling capability, producing scaled 3D models that surface clashes and buildability problems before boarding starts and that carry through into facilities management data after handover. The design team resolves fire, acoustic, structural and sustainability requirements alongside the architect’s visual intent, and offers value engineering on board type and detailing when budgets or programmes shift.
Sustainability work is tied to the assessment schemes clients ask for. The company supports BREEAM, WELL, LEED and SKA targets through design rationalisation, alternative and chain-of-custody materials, and site practices that reduce waste, with all waste weighed before it leaves site. Nick Lawrence, the senior technical services manager, led the implementation of the systems behind the company’s ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification.
On quality, the stated benchmark is to outperform BS8212 and design to a zero visible tolerance, and the company reports seven perfect scores in main contractor quality audits.
